The grinder, which looks like a little blender, effectively chops beans and puts them into the filter. It is important to wash and DRY the grinder before making a pot. If you have ground coffee, you can bypass the grinding step and use it like a non-grinding machine. I've used it daily for six months without any problem.

We purchased this after using a very basic Krups coffeemaker for years. We have not been able to get the same flavor from our coffee beans from this model and after about a week and a half of use the grinder got plugged up with beans and I found over half of them still in the grinder when cleaning it tonight. Overall, the coffee brewed from this pot is not top notch.
