Peggy Lee is one of the coolest, steamiest, most sensuous singer to hit the music scene in any era, in my opinion.

How can you not love this song?

she’s a giant….underastimated i suppose, but one of the greatest female voices ever

  5. romamruin says:

Condolli on trumpet – one of top trumpet studio/jazz players around – sadly passed now – did a lot with Shelly Manne.

Such a mellow smokey voice, sweet & sexy.

I just listened to Julie London’s version, Ella Fitzgerald’s version, and Sarah Vaughan’s version of this song all in a row and I must say I enjoy this version the most. She’s got such an infectious voice! Amazing

@jakeyates2 YES!!!!! thats the first thing I thought. i was dead within the first five seconds of the song, like you said who ever is playin their nasty, their rediculious.

  10. hugleberthumperdink says:

@GordonSpot920 couldn’t agree more. She has the smoke in her voice, the seduction in the subtle nuances of her vibrato and just class man, class.

  16. Carambabambasamba says:

Peggy Lee did it long before Julie London, who was a big fan of Peggy. To me, Julie’s version is just okay, and clearly inspired by Peggy’s; I far prefer Peggy’s version.

    tasty

  19. Carambabambasamba says:

Well, in your opinion she takes it. :) I love both singers, but I don’t find anything remarkable about Sarah’s interpretation of “Black Coffee”. In my opinion, Peggy did the definitive version of “Black Coffee”: its the equivalent of film noir in music!

  20. GordonSpot920 says:

nice version, but the “Sassy One” takes the prize!
